The former is material which causes sense of urgency. The latter ispsychic which causes sense of loss. The endangered culture in Southwest China now is facing the crisis of survival as well asthe crisis of belief.Recent years, in order to unlock the cultural secrets in several colorful scriptures collected by the National Museum in lastcentury, the teachers and students of Tsinghua University have been to Southwest China, especially the border between SichuanProvince and Yunnan Province for several times to find the person who can read and interpret the context in themysterious scriptures. The pictures and pictography in these scriptures record the journal of faith of people’s ancestors. Facingthe disasters and suffering throughout the history and society, there may be a necessary for modern people to relearn howto survive and to believe.This is a river basin of six rivers, which is also the well-known Ancient Tea Horse Road, the Tibetan-Yi-Corridor and theSilk Road linking the north and the south. Converging various culture, this area contains precious materials of the Sino-Tibetan languages as well as the Austronesian languages. Moreover, various forms of pictography have been found in thisarea. So far, besides Dongba scripts, there are many different forms of scripts still surviving and playing an important role inpeople’s life, such as Ruka Scripts, Moso Scripts, Pumi Scripts, Namuz Scripts, Ersu Scripts, Muya Scripts, Taliu Scripts andso on. Now these primitive scripts are badly endangered since very few people know exactly what they mean and how to readthemWhat we need to do now is to go deep into the mysterious area, digging out and recording and unscrambling the primitive125
