The Study of Place Name in Niimi Manor in 1325Suguru TAKAHASHIAbstractA large number of historical records of Niimi Manor in Bitchu Province has been introduced into To-ji inKyoto, and research utilizing many of these records has been accumulated.A lot of this research references the place name Kenchu-Cho, and it appears in abundance in the historicalrecords.Kenchu-Toricho was created on the occasion when Kenchu was performed, and, depending on the method ofthe lord of a manor in Syoucyu-2 (1325), carries the most detailed name of a place in Kenchu-Cho related to NiimiManor.Because Kenchu-Cho carries the very detailed name of a place, it serves as one of the most fundamental historicalrecords related to place name in research on Niimi Manor.This comprehensive study was performed with the presumption of the place name being Syoucyu-2 Kenchu-Cho.This study verified that Syoucyu-2 Kenchu-Cho had the fixed route, as reflected in the statement of Kenchu-Toricho.Moreover, through this study the distribution of place names of the territory belonging to the lord of a manorbecomes quite clear.With the lord of a manor’s territory becoming clear, it is possible for the composition of the territory of Ryoketo be made known.Through this study, it can become easier to form a geographical picture to accompany Niimi Manor’s historicalrecords.WASEDA RILAS JOURNAL221(92)
