Ryusaku Tsunoda Center of Japanese Culture: Philosophy and Mission

The Graduate School of Letters, Arts, and Sciences at Waseda University has been a leader in Humanities research on various aspects of Japanese culture. The Ryusaku Tsunoda Center of Japanese Culture was established in January 2015, as a part of the Research Institute for Letters, Arts, and Sciences founded in 2012. The Center’s mission is the reexamination of Japanese culture from genuinely global perspectives. The Center will provide a dynamic interface for presenting scholarly knowledge cultivated at Waseda University to the world, and for incorporating top-level research methods developed abroad.
The Center promotes Waseda University’s efforts in conducting collaborative research in Japanese Studies with the world’s top researchers, and aims to foster future scholars of Japanese Studies who will be successful on an international level.
